Maria Carolan is an award-winning screenwriter, whose features and pilots of all genres have been recognized by the most prestigious competitions in the industry, including Austin Film Festival, Final Draft Big Break, and PAGE. Recently, Maria's biopic Fenwick ranked among the top 12% of projects on the Coverfly platform. Simultaneously, her satire Josh was named a semifinalist in the ScreenCraft Comedy contest.Â
Maria studied Playwriting at Dartmouth College and worked in the art world before earning her MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA. Later, she vetted scripts for Sundance Labs, where she promoted female-led projects. Maria has taught screenwriting to undergraduate and MFA students at UCLA and New York Film Academy. She currently works as an instructional designer in ed tech, using her storytelling chops to build narrative-driven courses for professionals.
When she is not puttering around her 150-square foot Brooklyn studio, procrastinating, Maria loves to read heavy, expensive hardcover novels, take dance classes all over the city, and discuss restaurant openings in the group chat.
